From foam pits, flying dunks, and a few nail-biting games of dodgeball, on December 7th, K/codas of all ages and Deaf parents gathered together at SKY Zone, in Columbia, Maryland in support of KODAheart! We had a great time meeting old and new faces and we can’t thank you enough! We were so excited to spend time with you and your families, and share with you more about organization!
From 1-3 pm the families that attended the event met and mingled on the main floor. While the kids jumped, we shared in several conversations about the concerns and needs of the local community. There was a buzz of excitement about future KODAheart events and we discussed how KODAheart will support existing local koda organizations in upcoming endeavors. Many of the parents had great conversations with with President Jennifer Legg, Vice President Robert Loeffler, and Secretary Jannelle Legg. And, we learned, for many families that came by, this was the first koda event they had attended!
This was a wonderful opportunity for parents to ask questions, discuss current challenges, and to network with fellow parents from the area. It also allowed many of the kodas to take advantage of the different activities Sky Zone has to offer. Several of the older kodas took on the dunk court and attempted to perform various basketball slam dunk feats- including backward 360 and 180 dunks! Others took advantage of the foam pits to perfect their front flips as well as other trampoline feats. Of course there were some serious group games of dodgeball in which both teams battled for the win!
As our jump time dwindled down we gathered quickly for a group photo and families exchanged information before leaving the venue. Thank you to all the c/kodas and families who were able to attend this event. We were thrilled to debut our brand new KODAheart t-shirts- many thanks to those that purchased them! Your support and feedback allows us to continue to grow and to be a resource to you and your family! We look forward to the next Maryland KODAheart event! Jump with KODAheart was a definite success- any suggestions of where should we jump next?
